More than 33 million people visit this part of New Jersey
each year, mostly for its 24-hour casinos and entertainment. Only 115 miles
from New York City, it is home to 12 casinos and resorts including the Hilton,
Bally's, Caesar's,
and three Trump casinos.
So gambling would be the obvious attraction to Atlantic City, but there
are other reasons the city is worth a visit, like its unique transportation
options. The Famous Rolling Chairs have been getting visitors around the
city since the 1800's. Now, you can have a seat in one such wicker chair
and be rolled up and down the boardwalk by a guide.
If you'd like to go further than just the Boardwalk, you can hop on a Jitney
for just $1.50. A Jitney is a mini bus that holds 13 passengers and drives
across the entire city 24 hours a day. The routes are colour-coded, so it's
not difficult to find your way. There are of course taxis and limousines,
if you enjoy a more conventional way of travelling.
For music fans, there is a series of free weekly jazz concerts throughout
August, part of Sunset Jazz on the Beach. The concerts are being held at
the Beach at Missouri Avenue or at the Kennedy Plaza stage at Mississippi
Avenue and the Boardwalk.
There is also the TW
Sports Amusement Park for those who just want to play around. The park
has everything from go-karts, to mini golf, and swimming pools and laser
tag.
And last but not least, try and head down to the Renault
Winery in Egg Harbour City. The winery is 130 years old and offers,
tours, tasting and even a gourmet restaurant.
